The Southern Cape Interdisciplinary Fisheries project
In December 2020, We were fortunate to collaborate on “The Southern Cape Interdisciplinary Fisheries project” together with SARChi in Marine Ecology and Fisheries at the University of Cape Town which resulted in a musical theatre production, As die See Byt. The production was initially staged in Melkhoutfontein near Stilbaai. Due to the Covid19 restrictions this production was filmed in May 2021 at the Baxter theatre and will now be rolled out to the fishing communities of the Southern Cape.
The script is based on research done by SARChi and addresses some economic, environmental and social issues within the fishing community. Thank you to everybody that was part of this great experience. Script writer Christo Davids, Composer Paul Hanmer, Director PJ Davids, De Wet van Rooyen and his team from WYRD films, Set Designer Yolandi van Jaarsveldt, Stage Manager Salene Bekker, Actors Abduragman Adams, Brendon Daniels and Lynelle Kenned, Musicians Lynn Rudolph, Nastassja Pretorius, Frank Mallows, Valentina Vorster, Liesl Stoltz, Salome van Wyk, as well as the community actors from Melkhoutfontein Patrick Michaels, Vrede Michaels, Chrisel Conradie and three young actors, Owen Appels, Danica Saayman and Jo-Nathan Busch, plus a choir from Melkhoutfontein Primary with choir conductor Tertia Jansen.
